Well, well. It is refreshing when the rumormill turns out to be right in a good way. Word of a last-minute limited edition GT3 has been circling overhead for several months now, but Porsche finally made the news official: those of you who bought a GT3 RS or GT2 RS thinking that it was the ultimate Porsche 997 GT car . . . you may now begin feeling slightly dimunitive.
Many are claiming that this is hardly a fair move by Porsche, but the rest of us may now benefit and begin basking in the gloriousness that is the new 911 GT3 RS 4.0. Or, as you might like to think of it, the last of the last of the last of the 997-model Porsche 911. The all-new 911 platform is due in the fall, but until then, the 4.0 is easily the hardcore shredder of today's lineup.
Shredding is ably performed by the borrowed RSR engine, with top-spec internals and a power output of 500hp, just in case you thought your RS 3.8 was hot stuff. As to weight, there isn't any. Well, not to speak of -- once you factor in all the carbon fiber this and aluminum that, it boils down to just an engine, a steering wheel, and a huge wing to encourage low-flying bird to move out of the way. Even the carpets are superslim. Lotus, where art thou?
